SAMOAN GOVERNMENT PRESS RELEASE PROVES LIES
Prime Minister Tuila’epa worried
Taumarunui, New Zealand: A Press Release from the Samoan government attacking New Zealand Private Investigative Blogger Dennis A. Smith and a Samoan political dissident exposes deception at the highest levels of Samoan government, according to one of the victims.
“This extraordinary personal attack on two law abiding individuals was clearly initiated by the Prime Minister of Independent Samoa,” Mr Smith says. “It was written and issued by his office following a long silence online over Christmas. It really shows the fear the political establishment has with the power of bloggers and political critics online.”
In a blog post responding to the formal Government Press Release Mr Smith analyses Samoan political actions. “The Prime Minister is clearly worried at the impact that bloggers are having,” Mr Smith says. “I’m sure the people can tell!”
Mr Smith was declared a Prohibited Immigrant by the Samoan Minister of Immigration Tuila’epa in 2016 and he says that the Prime Minister lies outright in several ways in the official Press Release.
”Tuila’epa claims that one of his ministers deported me in 2016 and that he hardly knew me. This is a total fabrication because Tuila’epa was the Minister of Immigration and only he can issued the order! On top of this, he was actually the patron of the SWAP Foundation for two years until we asked him if he wished to step aside for political reasons!”
In a recent blog post addressing these personal attacks ‘out of the blue’, Mr Smith also explained that the high profile political dissident Maua Faleauto was anything but a “loose cannon”.
“Personal attacks are the style of the Samoan Prime Minister. Attempting to smear the name of an effective, professional and longstanding critic of the government is the mark of a man clearly worried. Explaining is losing.”
Mr Faleauto has been a particularly active critic regarding the legislative changes forced through by Tuila’epa’s government relating to the freeing up of customary land for leasing to [mainly] foreign interests, in alignment with the United Nation’s Agenda 21 policies.
“You can’t in the one breath state that Samoa has a democracy without corruption and then ‘deport’ and attack critics personally in the the other when you are the government!” Mr Smith explains. “It has to be lies when you (as Minister of Immigration) are the only one who can sign a Prohibited Immigrant order and tell the world that ‘[others] deported him from Samoa for good’, doesn’t it? What’s he afraid of? That people will find out the truth about how Samoa really operates?”
Mr Smith states that he gave Tuila’epa an advance copy of his book in 2015 and that the PM was very concerned that this book Corruption in Samoa (eventually published online in 2017) revealed the name of his Mistress, a prominent CEO.
“The Samoan government is today caught in multiple lies,” Mr Smith concludes. “Samoans across the globe should cringe in shame!”
